Characteristics
It is a kind of engine in accordance with fire fighting standard. Compared with normal engine, it is more stable
and reliable. Its design concept is to protect the security of human and their property, but normal engine considers
more about its performance.
1. starting system: there are three kinds of starting types of fire fighting engine: main controller starting,
instrumentation starting and emergency starting. And from the crank speed within 20s, to the rated speed and
rated power.
Main controller starting: controller can result in the pressure of pipe net goes down then automatically starting ,
and press 'manual' buttom to start.
Instrumentation starting: Press 'manual’ buttom of the instrumention to start.
Emergency starting: if the main controller and instrumention all broken down , emergency manual starting can start
the fire engine.
2. Battery: fire fighting engine usually equiped with two sets of batteries for power supply. To ensure the battery full
of power and can quick start the fire fighting engine at any time, here are two kinds of charging ways: connecting to
AC power or using generator of the engine for charging.
Battery capacity: At 40℉ (4℃), each battery shall have twice the capacity sufficient to maintain 3-minute
attempt-to-start cycle, which is six consecutive cycles of 15 seconds of cranking and 15 seconds of rest.
Batteries based on calculations, to have capacity for 72 hours of standby power without ac power being
available for battery charging.
3. Jacket water heater: fire fighting engine equipped with jacket water heater to heat the coolant and keep
49℃ of the cylinder,to ensure the engine can quick start at any time.
4. Cooling system: fire fighting engine equipped with water pump , as the pump end is full of water and
water cooling has good effect, cooling type of diesel engine normally choose water cooling.
5. Exhaust system: fire fighting engine need equipped with seperate exhaust system ,and connect flexible
joint on the exhaust vent, to absorb the heat and cut off the engine vibration .
6. Fuel supply &return system: fire fighting engine must equipped with an independent fuel supply &return
system, The fuel tank is sized for 5.07 liter/kW (1gal/HP) plus 10% (5% for expansion and 5% forsump),for
make sure enough fuel.
7. Coupling:Engines shall be connected to horizontal shaft pumps by means of a flexible coupling.The flexible
coupling shall be directly attached to the engine flywheel adapter.
8. Alarm signal: when fire fighting diesel engine at low oil pressure,high coolant temperature, low coolant
temperature, over speed, high cooling raw water , they will send out alarm signal, but all this alarm signal will
not fire fighting diesel engine , except over speed .
