NMFIRE VIF80/20 is a UL Listed vertical inline fire pump covering 250–500 GPM for NFPA 20 fire protection systems. Its vertical inline design mounts the TEFC electric motor directly above the pump, with suction and discharge on the same centerline — delivering full performance in a compact, space-saving footprint that fits plant rooms, rooftops, and retrofit sites where horizontal split case or end suction pumps cannot be installed.
The VIF series is engineered for commercial buildings, industrial facilities, warehouses, and infrastructure projects where available space is limited. A close-coupled, space-saving construction with top-pullout access allows impeller and seal service without disturbing the piping, reducing maintenance downtime. The pump installs directly in-line with existing piping runs — no foundation pit or separate bearing frame required.
Manufactured to NFPA 20 requirements with UL Listing, each pump is factory performance tested to verify shut-off pressure (not exceeding 140% of rated pressure), rated flow and pressure, and 150% rated flow at no less than 65% of rated pressure.

A vertical inline fire pump has its electric motor mounted directly above the pump, with suction and discharge nozzles on the same vertical centerline. This close-coupled configuration needs no separate bearing frame or foundation pit, so the pump installs straight into the piping run and occupies a minimal footprint. It is the preferred choice for compact plant rooms, rooftops, basements, and retrofit projects where a horizontal split case pump would not fit. The NMFIRE VIF80/20 delivers 250–500 GPM in this space-saving inline format, UL Listed per NFPA 20.
Horizontal split case pumps are bidirectional and easier to maintain (the upper casing half can be removed without disturbing piping), typically used for medium to high flow duties. End suction pumps offer a simple, economical layout for lower duties. Vertical inline pumps have the most compact footprint — the motor sits directly on the pump and the nozzles align with the pipe run — making them ideal where space is limited. All three types are available from NMFIRE with UL Listed certification per NFPA 20. Selection depends on project flow, available space, and installation constraints.
The VIF80/20 covers rated flows of 250, 300, 400, 450, and 500 GPM, with pressure ratings from 70 to 157 PSI (head 64–110 m). Pump speed options are 2980 and 3550 RPM depending on the duty point. Each flow/pressure combination is driven by a matched TEFC electric motor from 30 to 100 HP. Typical selections include 500 GPM at 109–150 PSI and 400 GPM at 70–154 PSI; the full selection table and performance curves are available on request.
Sizing starts from the hydraulic calculations of the sprinkler or standpipe system: the required flow (GPM) at the most demanding point plus hose stream allowance, and the pressure needed to overcome elevation, friction losses, and required residual pressure at the topmost outlet, minus available municipal supply pressure. The selected pump must then meet the NFPA 20 performance criteria: at 150% of rated flow, discharge pressure must be ≥65% of rated pressure; at shut-off (zero flow), pressure must not exceed 140% of rated. NMFIRE engineering can verify the duty point against the VIF80/20 selection table and issue a project-specific performance curve for consultant approval.
Yes. The suction and discharge flanges are on the same centerline, so the pump connects straight into a vertical pipe run with minimal layout change and no foundation pit. Flanged connection sizes are matched to the system piping for each configuration — exact dimensions are shown in the pump outline drawings. As with any fire pump, suction conditions (positive suction head, straight suction piping, and velocity limits) must be verified per NFPA 20 before installation.
The VIF80/20 pump unit itself comprises the vertical inline pump and its TEFC electric motor. For projects requiring a complete fire pump system, NMFIRE can configure packages that add a UL Listed fire pump controller, a jockey pump for pressure maintenance, and a pressure relief valve where required. Delivery options include conventional plant room installation, a skid-mounted fire pump system with pre-piped pump and jockey pump on a common base, and a fully containerized fire pump station pre-assembled for plug-and-play site connection. Package scope is configured per NFPA 20 and project requirements.
A 500 GPM inline fire pump is a common duty for light hazard and ordinary hazard occupancies: mid-rise commercial and residential buildings, hotels, retail centers, office buildings, parking structures, data centers, and single-zone warehouses. The VIF80/20's compact vertical format is particularly advantageous where the fire pump room is small or the pump must be retrofitted into an existing riser. For higher flow duties (750–1500 GPM), NMFIRE also offers larger vertical inline and horizontal split case models.
Yes. NMFIRE fire pump packages are designed according to NFPA 20 requirements. The VIF80/20 vertical inline model is UL Listed. Each pump is factory performance tested per NFPA 20 including shut-off pressure verification (max 140% of rated), rated flow testing, and 150% rated flow verification at no less than 65% of rated pressure.
Yes. Factory test reports including pump performance curves, together with pump outline and dimensional drawings, are provided as standard technical documents. For skid-mounted or containerized packages, or any other document requirements, please contact us to discuss. Third-party witness testing at our fire pump test facility can also be arranged per project requirements.
