Product Overview

NMFIRE series is a UL Listed vertical inline fire pump designed for NFPA 20 fire protection systems. Its vertical inline design mounts the electric motor directly above the pump, with suction and discharge on the same centerline — delivering full performance in a compact footprint that fits pump rooms, rooftops, and retrofit sites where horizontal split case or end suction pumps cannot be installed.

The VIF series is engineered for commercial buildings, industrial facilities, warehouses, and infrastructure projects where available space is limited. A close-coupled, space-saving construction with top-pullout access allows impeller and seal service without disturbing the piping, reducing maintenance downtime.

Manufactured to NFPA 20 requirements and UL Listed, each pump is factory performance tested to verify shut-off pressure (not exceeding 140% of rated pressure), rated flow and pressure, and 150% rated flow at no less than 65% of rated pressure.

Fire Pump Test Facility

Our dedicated fire pump test bench enables:

  • Accurate flow measurement via calibrated flow meter
  • Pressure monitoring at suction and discharge
  • Complete performance curve generation
  • Third-party witness testing arrangement per project requirements
NFPA 20 Acceptance Criteria:
At 150% of rated flow, discharge pressure must be ≥65% of rated pressure.
At shut-off (zero flow), pressure must not exceed 140% of rated pressure.
These are mandatory pass/fail criteria per NFPA 20.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Technical questions & answers — click to expand

Are NMFIRE fire pumps compliant with NFPA 20?

Yes. NMFIRE fire pump packages are designed according to NFPA 20 requirements and available with UL Listed certification; FM Approved is offered on selected models. Each pump is factory performance tested per NFPA 20 including shut-off pressure verification (max 140% of rated), rated flow testing, and 150% rated flow verification at no less than 65% of rated pressure.

What is the difference between vertical inline and horizontal split case fire pumps?

Horizontal split case pumps are bidirectional and easier to maintain (the upper casing can be removed without disturbing piping), typically used for medium to high flow. Vertical inline pumps have a compact vertical design that fits tight pump rooms and rooftops where horizontal pumps cannot be installed, with the motor directly coupled above the pump. Both types are available with UL Listed certification per NFPA 20. Selection depends on project flow, available space, and installation constraints.

What pump types and configurations are available for NMFIRE fire pumps?

NMFIRE offers horizontal split case, end suction, vertical inline, and vertical turbine pump types. The VIF150/32 vertical inline model is UL Listed and electric motor driven as standard; other types are available with UL Listed and FM Approved certification per NFPA 20. Vertical turbine pumps are suited to deep well and wet pit applications. Complete packages include fire pump, motor/engine driver, controller, jockey pump, relief valve, and standard accessories per NFPA 20.

Can you provide CAD drawings and pump performance curves?

Yes. Technical documents including General Arrangement (GA) drawings, pump performance curves, technical datasheets, motor datasheets with enclosure selection, controller datasheets, factory test reports, and installation manuals are available for project submission. Our engineering team provides project-specific submittal packages.

Do you support third-party inspection and witness testing?

Yes. Factory inspection and third-party witness testing can be arranged according to project requirements. Our dedicated fire pump test facility enables accurate flow measurement, pressure monitoring, and complete performance curve generation. Third-party inspection agencies are welcome to participate in factory testing per project requirements.

Is ambient temperature considered for electric motor driven fire pumps?

For electric motor driven fire pumps, altitude does not reduce motor power output, so no altitude derating is required. However, motor enclosure and insulation class are selected for the installation environment — TEFC (Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled) is standard for NMFIRE VIF packages and is suited to high-temperature, dusty, or hazardous areas. NMFIRE engineering selects the motor rating based on actual site conditions to ensure reliable starting and operation at the specified duty point; supply voltage, phase, and frequency are confirmed at order.

What configurations are available for the fire pump package?

NMFIRE offers single electric, 1 electric + 1 diesel, and 2 electric configurations, as well as containerized fire pump houses for pre-assembled, plug-and-play installation. Material options include standard fresh water, corrosion resistant (stainless steel 316L), and seawater service (duplex stainless steel). Controller options include UL Listed fire pump controllers compatible with the selected driver. Configuration is selected per NFPA 20 and project requirements.
